Montezooma’s Revenge is one of the oldest shuttle coaster rides still operating and was one of the first steel coasters at Knott’s Berry Farm. Lying in Fiesta Village near the tame Jaguar and the spinning flat ride, La Revolucion, how could you not be drawn to its towering height over the other two?

A sign above says the ride’s name. When the riders head up two ramps, you enter the Mexican-style station, fitting the ride’s theming. After a normally short wait, the riders board the train and pull down the simple lap bar restraints and buckle the seatbelts. As soon as they are checked, the operators remind the riders to keep their head back and hands down. The train is suddenly thrust out of the station and quickly comes into a loop, traveling around part of Jaguar’s track. The loop is very bumpy, but the lap bar restraints give the riders more airtime. As soon as the train finishes the loop, it head up the first spike, and here comes the “Revenge”-it is pulled back down into the loop, quickly into the station, and up the spike, going backwards, where more airtime is felt than even the top loop. After traveling down into the station, the train comes to a quick stop, which could hurt your neck if you don’t brace yourself.

“Monte” as coaster enthusiasts call it is well worth its short wait. Because of its quick load times, more people get on per hour, leading to the short lines. Montezooma’s Revenge is definitely worth a ride.

Pros: Airtime on the spikes and the loop, speed
Cons: Is kind of bumpy, quick stop at the end hurts if you aren't prepared

Overall rating: 7.5/10
