The spider at Lagoon is one twisted beast! This is Maurer Söhne’s first spinning coaster in America. With a top height of 50ft this coaster only goes 37 mph but is still able to pack a wallop!

When I got to the park, I immediately headed straight for Spider since it was their newest coaster. The line was short but well themed for such a small ride! In order to get to the ride you have to go underneath a HUGE spider the occasionally spits out fog and water at you! Then you go into a castle turret and have to climb up a spiraling staircase. Finally you go underneath some track and get to the final area. There are actually two stations on this ride, one in front of the other, that really speed up waiting time. It doesn’t matter which station you go to. Finally, you get to board the ride! I recommend sitting in the seats that are facing backwards so you get to go backwards until the car is allowed to spin. The lap bars are pretty comfortable and fit snugly.

The lift hill is very brisk and when you get to the top you take a quick turn past a block break and head down the swooping first drop! This is where it really pays to get in the backwards section! After that, you swoop back up to a flat portion with a quick wild mouse type turn. Then the fun really starts! The car is released and your allowed to spin! Now that you are spinning you enter another turn and dive down to 80° Immelmann-Turn. This Fun and exciting feature is one of the most intense moments of the ride. After this you speed up to a block break with you fly through! Then you go thorough two quick turns and into a section of trick-track. This section of the track banks back and forth quite quickly inducing a fast spinning frenzy. This is sure to get the adrenaline up! Now you go over the queue line in a quick non-banked turn! This is really fun to watch while in line! The finale is a fast pace spinning helix. Finally, you go up a hill into smaller turns and into the final brakes where you are stopped, then very forcefully locked back in place. This is probably the worst part of the ride. Sometimes, it can hurt a good deal too.

Pros: Disorienting and unique
Cons: Not very long and it can sometimes hurt at the end.

Overall rating: 5.5/10
