The very first thing you see when you get to Six Flags Marine World is a maze of twisted bright green track of a big coaster called Medusa. Be petrified, but be careful not to stare at this beautiful coaster too long, or you may turn to stone!

While walking through Medusa's line, I noticed the theming that Marine World has added to bring Medusa to life. They had many trees, shrubs, and other "jungle-like" plants to the line. Also, they did a very good job on the look of the station. It is a two story station that appears to be made out of sandstone with hieroglyphical writings, and snakes carved into the walls. By the time 35 minutes were done, I was strapped in the comfortable floorless trains with very comfortable OTSRs (over-the-shoulder restraints).

Finally, the restraints have been checked and the floor drops out from under your feet to put you into the floorless position. It took about a minute to get to the 150 ft mark, but when you got there, you can see the great view. The hills in front of you and Roar, Zonga, the rest of the park, and the twisted layout of Medusa's track to the right. Before you can take your big breath of air, you are plunging down a rare straight drop on a looping coaster at 65 mph into the tallest vertical loop in the world when Medusa opened in the year 2000, topping out at 128 feet tall. Right after that record breaker, you quickly go through a 95 ft tall dive loop and into a Zero-g roll, which is one of my favorite inversions. A few seconds later you are pushed through the world's very first Sea-serpent. A Sea-serpent is an element that has two inversions like in a Cobra Roll but it spits you out in the opposite direction instead of going back where you came from like in a Cobra Roll. After the world's first sea-serpent, you shoot up into the MCBR (mid-course brake run) for a very short breather, until you plunge down a steep swooping curved drop into the first corkscrew right underneath the MCBR. Make sure you smile for the on-ride photo cam! Then you go around a smooth left turn helix and right into the second corkscrew. Finally, you go around a tight right hand helix up into the final brake run and into the station.

Pros: Zero-G Roll, first drop, variety of elements, very smooth
Cons: Could use more theming, especially underneath the ride where you can still see the once existing parking lot.

My experience on Medusa was a very positive one. Many people who got off the ride said that it was the best roller coaster they've been on and I see them run back in line to give it another go. The only minor drawback of this ride is the lack of theming. It is a very exciting ride and definitely should not be missed. Medusa should easily go on your top ten list!
Overall rating: 9/10
